Live from the Philippine Blog Awards

One of the organizers of the Philippine Blog Awards, Abe Olandres, is interviewed by RPN-9.
I’m sitting here at the Globe booth just outside the Philippine Blog Awards, waiting for the ceremonies to begin. After more than a year of communicating with him on the phone and online, I finally met Abe Olandres, one of the organizers and, as it turns out, my Web host, too.
As I was walking in, one of the Globe promo girls invited me to try out their broadband service—“libre naman ho (it’s free!)” All around, there were promotional posters and brochures for Globe’s Speak N’ Surf, which is Globe’s new service that links broadband access to a wireless landline. Unfortunately, this wasn’t what Globe had on display here—just their regular DSL service.
I first learned of Speak N’ Surf about a month ago, and had tried everything to get a trial account because I was intrigued by the new service. The potential was good, I felt, especially for small busiensses that could take their wireless landline and broadband connection home with them at the end of a work day.
Working through the Business Editor at Standard Today, I contacted the Globe PR group a number of times, but they never got back to me.
Later, I got an e-mail from a disgruntled Speak N’ Surf subscriber. Ah… maybe that’s why Globe never got back to me, I thought. I guess I’ll ask them about that… if they ever contact me.
