REDMOND, Washington—Unlike the Windows media player that his company makes, there´s no volume control on Microsoft president Steve Ballmer. Exuberant, animated, and intense even at 8:30 a.m., Ballmer met last month with a small group of journalists at the Microsoft Studios, one of 52 buildings scattered across the sprawling Microsoft Campus.
