This blog is back
After a months-long hiatus, this blog is back. For the longest time, I had been using Expression Engine to power this blog, but a few months back, the site was hit by a serious glitch that led to some data loss. My host, Ploghost, tried to restore the database as best they could, but I had begun to feel unhappy with the content management software I was using for other reasons. For one thing, it wasn’t very easy to change the look of the blog — and I felt it was a time for a change. I was also discouraged by the scarcity of information on EE on the Internet to help me make these changes.
Earlier this month, I decided to take the plunge and switch to WordPress 3.3.1, which solves these two problems. The process of copying my old entries into the new database was tedious, but I finally got to the last entry a few days ago — a total of 590 posts. My biggest regret is the loss of all the comments that my readers left. The change in the database structure also meant that links to my old posts, including those from Google, no longer work and now land on my home page.
Anyway, if you’re a regular reader who has stumbled onto this refreshed blog, do drop me a line to tell me what you think. It was gratifying to see that I had hit 5.7 million page views before the switchover. Thanks to Abe Olandres of Ploghost for helping me install WP 3.3.1, and Connie Veneracion for help with the permalinks.
